3Degrees Talent will focus on working with early-stage technology companies in the Pacific Northwest, finding them tested leadership. 3Degrees believes that by finding great Managers, Directors, VP, and C-Level candidates they can not only propel their clients forward from a business perspective, but they can also save them considerable time and money. "When we place a Director of Engineering in a start-up, the good ones normally come with one or two devout followers and that saves our clients fees on those hires and also time as it doesn't take months to find them and win them over, it takes weeks", says Jones.
3Degrees also understands cash strapped start-ups. Their fee structure is below market at 15%, compared to other firm's fees running as high as 33% for executive searches. They are also open to a combination fee consisting of cash and equity. Jones feels that if they are going to find and add great talent to a team they should have a bit more skin in the game, if it makes sense for 3Degress and the client. It just adds more of a feeling of true partnership, according to Jones.
The firm already has been doing skill marketing searches this past year, taking great talent and finding the best company and role and directly submitting them, essentially acting as a talent agent. They just completed a COO search for a growing Houston technology company building a branch in Seattle, closing the role with a single candidate submission. "We are currently working on a GM role for an early-stage start-up, just closed another GM search for a yet to launch start-up aligned with a Seattle-based incubator, and are working on a VP of Engineering that we hope to close after the first of the year", says Jones. "I have the best job in the world. I get to work with some of the smartest people in technology and the most amazing companies who are changing the business landscape forever; it's just hard to beat!"
